David Schalliol: Isolated Building Studies

Isolated Building Studies: Revealing Meaning Through Recontextualization is a thought-provoking, sociological project which explores architectural remnants of Chicago’s past. I’m glad that someone has taken the time to recognize the visual impact that buildings like these carry.

Nightwood Reincarnated Furniture

I’ve seen a few pieces similar to these in various places, and they always inspire me to make my own eco-friendly furniture collage. Even some expert craftspeople don’t have access to the tools required to make quality furniture, so this style allows the creator to piece together elements that have already been created. It also allows for some error, which adds personality to the object.

House-In-A-Box

One of many prefabricated homes by Marmol Radziner

I recently read an article in Newsweek discussing the MoMA’s current prefabricated home exhibit. The thought of a prefabricated home seems a bit like buying a house from Ikea, it comes in boxes and the buyer assembles the home or pays someone else to do the job. As it turns out, there are some incredibly designed prefab homes on the market, and the vendors assist customers throughout the homebuilding process. Cribcandy has a very thorough listing.
