Street artist / photographer JR’s recent work in Kenya is massive. Rooftops and trains were covered with huge images of Kiberan women. The images are so large that they are visible from space. I love how the photos on the trains line up with the photos on the slopes.

CNN is urging attendees to the inauguration of President Barack Obama to take pictures of the moment that he takes the oath. The resulting images will be compiled into a 3D Photosynth image, which will recreate the moment from all angles and distances.

Liberated Studio has a great set of paintings. I love the juxtaposition between the flat, graffiti-esque illustrations in the foreground and the heavily textured damask patterns in the background.

Ted McGrath’s work has a definite post-punk aesthetic. There are lots of collaged illustrations and xerox zines. I particularly like the editorial series for Esquire Russia, featuring actor Ralph Fiennes.
Thanks Aaron.

Right now at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, there are a series of 70 still-life polaroids by Andy Warhol on display. Photographed between 1977 and 1983, the subject matter ranges from a pair of ballet slippers to a pile of knives. I love the personality conveyed in these photos. Most of them are pretty humorous.

Dane Lovett has a style that can be described as both loose and meticulous. Color, applied in large brush strokes, is contrasted nicely by the detail in the letterforms, logos, and facial features. This contrast provides a hazy dimensionality, which is consistent throughout Lovett’s portfolio.

Die Gestalten Verlag has been in my Bookmarks bar for quite a while now. I’m very excited to see that they have a podcast that covers all the areas of design culture, from art to architecture.

Cristiana Couciero (Seven Days) combines the masculinity of Swiss International design with playful collages and a feminine color palette to achieve a style that is quite wonderful.
