James Provost, a technical illustrator, recently completed a poster featuring his renderings of iconic mid-century modern furniture. The style is inherently minimal, and the textured shadows add a vintage feel to the illustrations. You can buy a giclee print, featuring all of the pieces, from imagekind.

The first time I saw a diagram of a ship with dazzle camouflage, I thought that the diagram was a recent, purely conceptual illustration. However, I just learned that these camouflage patterns were actually used in both World Wars. The purpose of dazzle camouflage is not to conceal, but to disorient. The patterns make it difficult for onlookers to determine which direction the ship is heading. The Rhode Island School of Design has an online exhibit dedicated to these incredible camouflage patterns.

Photonium* has a Flickr set featuring some vintage Braun products, designed by Dieter Rams. A lot of these designs look like they could have been produced yesterday instead of decades ago. If the Braun photos interest you, make sure to check out Photonium*’s Charles and Ray Eames Flickr set as well.

I love the collection of old neon lights in Las Vegas’s Boneyard. Seeing all of the various typefaces and colors reminds me of the work of Greg Lamarche.

In a collaboration with Asics, Mabona Origami created the concept for their corporate history. Each moment in the shoe company’s history is symbolized by a different origami creation. It’s quite an inspiring video.

This is an incredible home concept by Norwegian firm Rintala Eggertsson Architects. It retains and absorbs heat, making it energy efficient in a cold climate. I love the contrast between the sleek metal exterior and the warm, wooden interior.

The trailer for Gary Hustwit’s (filmmaker who brought us Helvetica) new film, Objectified, has finally been released. I’ve always been curious about the processes that lead to the objects in our everyday lives.

Charles and Ray Eames created this film, detailing each step in the process for their Herman Miller chair designs. I really like how the chairs look before they are upholstered.
